Pediatric Nephrology Division at Batra Hospital and Medical Research Center is one of the few dedicated centers in this sub specialty in the country.
Pediatric Nephrology services have been well backed up by the dedicated departments of Pediatrics (PICU, NICU), Pathology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Urology, Pediatric Surgery and dietician.
This Division provides services to the children who suffer from different medical Disorders of Kidney and Urinary tract.
Kidney disorders in pediatric age group usually present with the following complaints -
Pediatric nephrology Services available at our centre are:
- Early morning Facial puffiness
- Decrease Urine output
- Increase or decrease in urinary frequency
- Bed Wetting
- Dribbling of urine
- Not gaining height
- Blood in urine
- High blood pressure
- Recurrent urinary tract Infection
- Generalized body Swelling
Common Pediatric Nephrology problems encountered in the community are: Nephrotic Syndrome
- Expert management of recurrent body swelling
- Ultrasound Guided kidney Biopsy
- Manual Peritoneal Dialysis
- Automated Peritoneal dialysis
- Slow Low Efficiency Dialysis
- Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis catheter insertion
- Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis
Recurrent body swelling and infections are the main problems encountered in the pediatric nephrotic syndrome. These patients may require special drugs to control disease under expert supervision of Pediatric Nephrologist and special vaccination schedules. Acute Renal Failure/ Acute Kidney Injury
ARF usually presents with decrease in urine output and body swelling and if treated early in the course we can prevent chronic kidney failure in many cases. Child suffering from acute kidney injury may require renal replacement therapy in the form of dialysis and plasma exchange. All these services are available at our center round the clock. Chronic Kidney Disease
Patient with chronic kidney disease do not grow well and fail to make blood requiring repeated blood transfusion making them susceptible for blood borne infections. These patients require expert management with Pediatric Nephrologist. Urinary Tract infections:
Child having more than one urinary infection in life time is at risk for kidney damage or may be having underlying urinary tract abnormality which requires surgery. These patients should undergo various tests and should be taken care by Pediatric Nephrologist.
