Plastic Surgery is a very wide discipline with various sub-branches which include:
- Congenital Anomalies:
Cleft lip and palate: Defects are managed comprehensively right after birth by a team. They are appropriately followed and advised till adolescence when they become normal and accepted members of society.
Hypospadias (penile problems) is corrected by different techniques as required by the child, so that the child is able to pass urine from the tip normally and has a normal shape of the penis.
Other congenital abnormalities of the face, ear, jaws, craniofacial and hand are dealt appropriately.
- Maxillofacial: Treatment of Facial Fractures i.e. lower jaw (mandible), upper jaw (maxilla), cheek (zygoma), nose or/and orbit by advanced techniques of internal fixation (mini plating and wiring) is done by minimally invasive techniques to help in early restoration of normal fractures. Disfigurement due to trauma or congenitally is corrected by orthognathee surgery. Temporomandibular joint disorders are also treated comprehensively.
- Cosmetic Surgery: Correction of facial wrinkles or sagging by classical facelift or facial thread implantation along with rejuvenation is done. Eyelid sagging (lower or upper) are corrected surgically as a day care procedure. Sagging abdomen is corrected by “tummy tuck” (abdominoplasty) and can be combined with liposuction for body sculpturing. Nasal deformities (post trauma) or other defects are corrected by septorhinoplasty (Nose job”).
Breasts if underdeveloped, sagging or huge in size, are approximately corrected using implant where necessary.
Sagging eyebrows are corrected by browlift. Hair transplant using microfollicular techniques are done.
- Hand: Post trauma (bony and soft tissue defects) are corrected using magnification. Delayed reconstruction of residual defects is done with a comprehensive physiotherapy backup for giving acceptable results. Congenital anomalies of the hand (extra digit, joined digits) are corrected.
Nerve problems in any form (defect or compression) are dealt adequately.
- Microvascular Re-implantation of any amputated part (digit, hand, limb, ear or genitalia) is done with the help of microscope. Free tissue transfer for major defects after accident or cancer resection is also done with microscope.
- Reconstructive Surgery: Treatment of defect or deformities following accident, congenital or cancer ablation is done using either graft or local and distant flaps. Non healing wounds/ulcer in diabetic foot, burns, bed sores are covered using flaps to give the patient a near normal appearance. g) Post-burn sequelac: Post burn contractures or hypertrophic scarring of hand, neck, axilla, elbow, facial features are corrected using skin graft, local flaps or tissue expanders for better skin match. h) Non- surgical Facial Rejuvenation
